I've been wanting to give Jia a play kitchen for awhile now
and with her role play increasing and Christmas approaching
I thought it would be the perfect time.
There are tons of cute ideas on how to turn odd pieces of furniture
into play kitchens but that wasn't really the route I wanted to go.
And there are tons of gorgeous plans detailing how to build them from scratch
but there was no way we were going to have the time or money
to pull something like that off any time soon.
So I logged onto good ol' craigs list and found an excellent fixer-uper for $35.
Here's the ad photo and the before…
And the after…
The base is wood and I love the light color.
The top is white plastic and had the sink basin and stove burners
which cut down our work significantly.
My dad built the back wall (I love the bead board!) and shelf
and added the oven door (he even made sure to include a little oven rack!).
I painted everything, changed the knobs, and had my hubby add the faucet.
(Thanks to my mother-in-law for tracking it down on Christmas Eve!!)
I wanted a little kitchen print but couldn't quite find what I was looking for
so my mom and I whipped this one up.
It was so fun doing a custom print and I actually like it more than the ones I was going to buy!
Ikea has these adorable little cakes for $8. I couldn't pass them up.
I would've spent hours sewing all of these myself.
You know I had a blast "styling" her kitchen for these photos.
You also know that it NEVER looks like this when she's awake.
Which is the way it should be. ;)
We got the boys' gifts on craigslist as well.
Jaymin got a practically new, lime green iPod nano for $25 (!!)
and Jett got a Tony Hawk bike for $29.
Craigslist is my jam.
