This post is long overdue but better late than never right? Especially in this case. Our church has been part of an amazing campaign called "What if the church...":
- Believed together
- Prayed together
- Served together
Two weeks ago was our serve day and CRCC joined up with Westside Family and Heartland Church to "serve" in whatever way we were needed in downtown Kansas City. We had almost 900 volunteers and accomplished an amazing amount of work. I have never been prouder to pull weeds, haul rocks, cut tree limbs, and serve next to fellow followers of Christ.
The 3 pastors of these churches visited each church and when Schaun from Westside spoke at ours these are the notes I took:
Matthew 10:42 (the message)
"This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won't lose out on a thing."
- Get over yourself (Americans are consumed with money, success, indulgence, and themselves)
- Just show up
- "Love your neighbor as yourself"
- Give a cup of cold water in Jesus' name
- Be the hands and feet of Jesus
We are all part of the body of Christ, no part is more important than another, we need every part to live. I may have only been a tiny toenail on Saturday June 7 but I know I still made a difference. This is the way we need to be living our lives:
- Loving God - Loving People and - Serving the world
