Any suggestions?...

May 18, 2008

Ok, I love to read, but I especially love to read in the summer time. Mmmm, just sittin' by the pool, soakin' up the sun, and reading a page turner book. Ok, so maybe I'm dreaming considering my pool trips consist of chasing my child around and making sure he doesn't drown, crack his head open, or get kidnapped but needless to say I still want a good book to read! Lately it seems like I've been reading a lot of "self-help", which have all been very good (and Jodi, I still need to borrow like ALL of the ones you've told me about) oo-oo, especially the one my church just finished "I became a Christian and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" - very good, totally hilarious, and an easy read - but back to the subject, I absolutely LOVE novels - which to me equals the chance to escape reality for a few precious moments and dive into another place or time period. So, with that, I need some suggestions! I like Christian novels but will read non-Christian and I'm a big fan of Jane Austin but her works are limited. Ok, enough blabbing. Write soon, I'm getting antsy for a new read! :)

Ooooh, I love to recommend books. I'm glad you like to read-I didn't know that. I just got done reading a series by Lynn Austin called "The Refiner's Fire." She's a Christian writer. Each book in that series can be read alone. Its really 3 seperate stories, not one continuous one. They take place during the civil war, and I found them at the Johnson County Libray. The first book is called "Candle in the Darkness." It's SO good!! I also love Francine Rivers-"Redeeming Love", "The Last Sin Eater" and a series by her that I loved is called "The Mark of the Lion." You may have heard of those last few. Anyways, those are some that I LOVED, and so I hope you get a chance to chill by the pool and read them, or at least some other great book. I'm ready for a new book as well, but I'll need to order them since the local bookstore has nothing I can read! Sorry this reply was SO long!

Rene' introduced me to an author by the name Charles Martin. He wrote The Dead Don't Dance, Maggie & When Crickets Cry. The 1st two are terrific and I am currently reading When Crickets Cry.

francine rivers is my favorite author... reading is my number one favorite thing to do...I never have time to watch t.v. and would chose a good book over t.v anyday. If you have not read her books...watch out sista...you won't want to put them down.

i concur with the comments about francine rivers. her books never disappoint!! love those! my other recommendations would be The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. both of these books are awesome, and make you think a lot about life in other cultures, which i appreciate. next on my list to read is The Shack. i have heard it is incredible, and can't wait to get into it!! hope this helps!

ditto to above... loved the mark of the lion series by francine rivers, LOVED the charles martin books especially "when crickets cry" can't go wrong with any of those... and our pool has a little gated area with a 1 foot deep pool that we can corral the kids in if you'd like a few moments to sit and relax with a book. just an idea... talk to you soon!
love, jenn
